In this episode, we dive into the exhilarating journey of entrepreneurship and the excitement of launching your own startup. While starting a business isn't a new concept, branding it as a "startup" has become the cool and trendy way to embark on this adventure.
Great ideas are abundant, but the best ones often stem from personal needs that aren't (apparently) addressed by any existing company or product. This unmet need is usually the seed that germinates into a successful startup.
Often, this seed, nurtured over a few coffees with friends, culminates in THE IDEA. If you can sketch it out on a napkin, you might feel that your product is perfect, necessary, simple, and that you're on your way to becoming the next Steve Jobs.
Whether you're at the initial stage or have already had those inspiring coffees, today we bring you a 10-point checklist of self-questions to help you validate your idea and perhaps consider new questions you hadn't thought of.
The 10 Essential Questions to Validate Your Startup Idea:
Do You Have a Reason to Exist or a Problem You Solve?
What unique need does your product or service address?
Do You Have a Story to Tell? The WHY!
Can you articulate the purpose and vision behind your idea?
Do You Offer a Sense of Community or Belonging?
Will your product foster a community or a sense of belonging among its users?
Do You Have a SPECTACULAR Product?
It's not enough to be good or slightly different—is your product truly spectacular?
Do You Have a Content Engine?
Think about the three levers: Earned, Owned, and Paid Media. Have you defined the tools and methods for generating content?
How Well Do You Know Your Customer?
Whether you call them buyer personas, potential clients, or users, do you truly understand who they are?
Unique Message and Visual Identity
Have you established a unique brand message and a compelling visual identity?
Consistency Across All Consumer Touchpoints—Omnichannel
Are you providing a consistent experience across all platforms and interactions?
Desire to Do Things Right for the Customer
Is your proposal focused on generating cash or on delivering value to the customer?
Are You Doing It with an EXIT in Mind?
Hint: The answer should be NO.
There are no right answers, but if you didn't hesitate for a second on any of these questions, it's the best sign that you're ON FIRE and IN LOVE with your idea. All that's left to say is: GO GO GO!!!
